Introduction
Studying the necessary tool to ace school step-by-step. But there’s several problems here. Studying sucks (especially when the concept is boring), time-intensive, incomprehensibly difficult, and just a nightmare for millions of students alike. Don’t worry, a majority of people deal with that. The major concern here is how you’re going to be able to solve that problem.
Of course, before we get into the specific stuff, I want you to consider some important points. Be aware that not everyone is taking the same step, and each person is on their own journey. So, if you feel that the information below doesn’t apply to you anymore, feel free to skip it. Otherwise, be willing to read for just a couple minutes. I don’t want you to take notes on anything here, instead I want you to just read. That’s it.
Where to Start
If you already have a desk, laptop, chair, a pair of headphones, and some school essentials (e.g. pencils, erasers, pens, etc.), you can skip this step. Otherwise, continue from here.
As was mentioned in another post (on productivity), you seriously cannot find yourself working from your couch, bed, or anywhere else where concentration is nonexistent. Please, save yourself from so many lost hours of what could’ve been “great work”. Instead, all I want you to do here is find a place where you can work comfortably, and yet still be 100% focused at all times. If you think about it, why do you think schools purchase a simple chair and desk? Exactly, it’s because it’s a completely appropriate working environment. Of course, not the same can be said for school classrooms, but you get the idea here.
Find a place, whether that’d be your desk from home, a local library, a coffee shop with internet, or anywhere else you can work comfortably (and with internet and peace) that is suited for working. Otherwise, working with as much focus as possible is simply not possible for so many.
When to Start
Next, when you should you start doing all of this inside of this document? The answer is now. If you haven’t already applied these tips and tricks into your life, then you aren’t optimizing for the right environment for school.
Besides that, be sure to study accordingly to when you receive assignments, exams, and projects. For example, a teacher may sometimes put out hints that an exam/quiz was going to be soon. For example, my old (literally) history teacher would often notify us about an upcoming test by saying things like:
“Expect a test on this sometime next week.”
My old teacher
From there, everyone knew when to study, when to work, and anything else that’s along the lines of that.
And even if your teacher doesn’t tell you, why does it matter? If you’re already struggling with a certain subject in that class, study the heck out of it until you have reached a point when you’ve mastered it. If you know how to appropriately study according to how you learn, that subject will eventually make sense (unless it doesn’t due to some other variable).
How to Start
Lastly, and most importantly, is how to get into the habit of naturally studying. As hard as it may seem, the answer to this troubling question is to solve the previous two problems. From there, just gradually get into the habit of studying better.
But wait, what if I want to remember a concept ASAP? Just wait, that’s for a future post. Here, I’ll just cover you how to get into the habit of studying. As hard as it may seem, it really isn’t. Just gradually put in more and more effort into studying, or more and more time. Even better, you can combine both variables and use them to your advantage to dominate your future tests.
More specifically, if you seriously want to do better on your tests, and start studying according to what’s fit for you, I suggest taking a test online and seeing how you learn. Some are able to learn by reading, through images, videos, competing in a similar activity, and some other way that I won’t mention here. See how you learn and apply that into your daily learning. Start learning a specific concept in school simply (reading & viewing), and if that doesn’t turn out successful, I suggest turning the best way to learn in the book, writing. If you want to take a deeper look, you can take a look at this post.
Writing is how you can go from zero to hero in a subject, even if you despise it. I’ll cover this in a future post in case you are curious.
Endnotes
Start small, and gradually scale. Don’t go hard on yourself by pushing yourself to your mental limits just yet. That’s for later.
