“There Will Never Be Another Today In Your Lifetime”

Introduction

There will never be another today ever again. In today’s post, we’ll cover a seriously crucial understanding that you must not never forget. Everyday, we always take our days for granted. We take our belongings, our prize possessions, and almost everything, for granted. Whether it be the smells of your mom’s cooking, the late-night hangout you have planned with your friends from high school on the game, or the sounds of the birds in your local childhood hometown. Everything seemed insignificant to us then, but it matters to us now.

This post covers something more than just gratitude. Being grateful unlocks a state of mind which connects to peace, to happiness, and to personal fulfilment (it’s great). However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll ever have a bad day. That’s not true.

In this post, we’ll cover this understanding of gratitude, as well as what I mean by this statement.

This is GraduationGurus.

What I Mean

What I mean is actually very straightforward, and chances are, you already understand what I mean.

But, for those of you who don’t, it goes something like this:

Enjoy Life For What It Really Is

In your life, you might be at the forefront of multiple challenges. You might have an incoming project with your co-workers to complete in the next couple of weeks, or even a bad grade on your report card that might ruin your full-year results, or something along the lines of that. In other words, you aren’t in the best mental and literal stance in life. Things could be better, you could have more free time, less responsibility and sacrifice, and more room for enjoyment; but, life just doesn’t let things be that way.

Soon enough, once you’re in a job, and have that job for years, your days start to bleed together and just form one large memory that refuses to erase from existence. This memory might even haunt you until the day you retire. Rather than viewing life for what it really is, you start seeing it as just a process: wake up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. That’s life for billions of people; and sadly, the rest of their lives will be lived just like that.

I’m not telling you to give up your job, drop out from high school, start living in the woods, and embrace mother nature (although that technically is always an option). No, no, please don’t do that; unless you’re confident with nature or are confident (as well as have some spare money) to move into some tribe that doesn’t tire themselves out for paper currency, but rather for what we really need: food, shelter, water, and clothing.

But rather, I’m saying that you should see life for what it really is. There’s no need to live life with your shoulders slumped, and with a frown on your face, because, it’s meant to be filled with joy and satisfaction.

…Even if It Doesn’t Seem That Way, Initially

Life is meant to be enjoyed, spent working, but also spent enjoying it with those you love most. Some day, you won’t be as young. You will no longer be a teenager, in your 20s, in your 30s, or in yours 40s. Some of you might even be reading this at an older age. Even then, the same idea applies. You could be older, with even less energy and hope, but yet, you’re still here. Therefore, this lesson applies to you.

We spend so much of life working mindlessly without really embracing its beauties and treasures. Sometimes, a nightly walk, or a late-night talk with the boys, or a nightly board game session (or Nintendo/VR, that’s lots of fun in group settings too) knocks you back into this stance really easily. You are a human, and you have emotions. That’s what makes the human mind, the human psyche, so wonderfully wonderful. Haha.

I remember seeing a reel on YouTube (yeah I know) from a motivational edit channel that says exactly this, but with a little twist that I think makes it even better. You could be in another position, have the admirable life of another person, and you probably would still feel behind, wanting more. Enjoy where you are, enjoy the journey, the endless grind, and the pain to wherever you want to go. Your goals define you, and they structure your life from the day you start. I’ll link the video at the bottom of this post.

Enjoy Everyday

And, this is what it all leads up to.

The reason you need to see life this way is because if you don’t, you’ll end up accidentally making it feel shorter. You should always want life to feel long, and feel great, even when today wasn’t so great, why? Well, easy! We never want to give up from the ultimate accomplishments we wish to reach, and from the life we want to have. This doesn’t mean that you need to be wealthy, or rich, or on news headlines monthly or even weekly; but instead known, recognized, and appreciated enough that your family and close-ones will always respect you.

Enjoy everyday for what it is. Even if it rains, enjoy it. Even if it snows, or thunders, enjoy it. All of that is apart of life, and it’s your job to develop this understanding to the highest potential possible.

What Makes Today So Special

There’s a really good quote from Kung Fu Panda that I think perfectly suits the topic at hand. It goes like this:

“Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, But Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called ‘The Present’.”

Kung Fu Panda

Every single day is unique for something. Whether it’s the fact that it was extra cloudy, or you forgot your car keys, or you packed a fruit smoothie so you can start eating healthier; whatever.

Although you might seemingly live a repetitive, day-to-day life that just never differs, you must never forget this lesson. Life is precious, and it’s a ‘present’ that we’re lucky enough to enjoy. If you want to get somewhere, accomplish something positively significant to you and those tat surround your every-day life, acknowledge this fact everywhere you go.

How You Can Be More Grateful

To be more grateful, you need to find what makes you naturally feel this way. For example, a lot of people find that they feel if they donate some of their money or old clothes to those in need, because it makes them feel good, and proud of who they are. Gratitude stems from this kind of behavior.

The simplest way to be more grateful for who you are is to create a gratitude journal. Please note that this would ideally be a physical journal where you can write down your thoughts physically, because digital journals just don’t feel the same in terms of personal significance. Here’s how this works:

  • Write down something you’re grateful for.
    • For example, it might be a sunset, a tasty meal, or a compliment from a friend, …
  • Repeat this short process every day in the morning or at night, where you are free from absolutely all sorts of distractions.
    • The goal is to continue writing until you have developed a stronger sense of mindfulness and personal happiness. Gratitude should make you feel this way, and feel different for appreciating even the little things of life.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading. This was a more personal-focused one, so I hope it was helpful for some of you. Some days, I just feel like not doing anything, and just asking myself what’s the point, and entering this state and asking personal questions seriously helps. Appreciate more of what you have everyday, being grateful for the little things, and you’ll be gifted with more than you could ever ask for.
